The Plight of Autumn

The summer light grows weary, fading with each passing day.
Autumn's sun is nearly upon us, blindly groping its way.
All too soon the green of summer will unwillingly creep away,
as the resonating colors of fall slither in without a sound.
The artistic landscape of vivid beauty transforms all around,
so much splendor to behold, a brilliance that will astound.

Picturesque cornucopias, pumpkins, spirited hues all ablaze,
bestowing delightful and tasty delicacies, all so sure to amaze.
Pungent burning leaves circulate wafts of smoky bouquets.
As the daylight dwindles, bathing in the sky's harvest moonlight,
the crisp frosty air betrays indifference to nature's plight.
Summer all but surrenders, giving up this pitiful fight.

October rings in without fanfare, apparitions and trick or treat,
the menacing darkness casting eerie shadows upon the street.
Destruction lies everywhere, remnants scattered about your feet,
abundant heaps of collected ruins, a paradise for children's play.
From vast heights, oaks and maples get caught up in the fray,
igniting infectious laughter while giving rise to total disarray.

A stern wind bellows harshly, conveying orders in the breeze.
Forced to do her bidding, submitting to her fickle creeds,
trees rain down the last vestiges of their now brittle leaves.
Gasping their last weary breath, emitting tired, haggard sighs.
Brown husks now decimated, withering pitifully in their demise.
Swirling chaotic gatherings incited, spurred by her poignant cries.

As Autumn's plight looms forth, hear her long, somber moan.
Reluctant to renounce this reign, to abdicate this precious throne.
Destined in her exodus, yielding now to Winter's cold gray tone.
This tyrant's kingdom, a perverse regime of supremacy and doom,
petrifying the domain, mutating it into a realm of murky gloom.
Autumn's ill-fated tenure now conquered, vanquished all too soon.

The Magic of the Seashore

The wonders of a sandy beach on a summer's eve
Savor the gentle caress of the ocean's breeze
The pitch and rhythm of the ever-moving tide
as waves clamor their arrival from the sea,
Choirs of gulls sing their ecstatic plea.

Admire the brilliant and radiant sun.
Scrutinize its deliberate descent in to the horizon.
Unlike a candle that's snuffed by the wind,
So captivated by the enormity of it's size
This fiery ball moves downward, to it's demise.

The light fades, exposing the shimmer of twilight,
reflecting the sparkle of diamonds, oh so bright
Stars radiate twinkles from the evening sky.
As it takes away the illumination of the day's hue,
the kaleidoscope of colors dissipates from view.

The eventual gloom reveals ghostly shadows in the sand,
lonely apparitions of erstwhile journeys upon the land.
Moonlight creeps ominously in to the majestic realm
while the rhythmic tide plunders on to the shore,
footprints left behind are washed away once more.

The seashore beckons to embrace all of her grandeur,
to bask in her infinite and glorious splendor.
Delight in the peaceful serenity of this regal domain.
Listen to the whispers of her quiet seduction,
a soft, enchanting voice of hypnotic affection.

Errant winds dispatch misty salt air that tingles the skin.
foamy waves churn relentlessly, as it adds to the din.
Beguiled by her legendary aria of romantic prose,
mesmerized by the exceptional beauty of this place.
Marvel in the magic of the seashore's wondrous grace.

Summer Skies

The sky turns dark with anger and disdain.
The crackle of lightning begins its refrain.
The winds rattle with their persistence.
Tall green pines now bend in resistance.

Mother Nature has forcefully begun her cry.
Ominous rumblings are heard from the sky.
As the day's light dissipates and dark clouds form,
birds sing out warnings, rushing from the distant storm.

While the wind courses through the trees,
hurriedly, all of nature begins to flee.
Farmers look to the sky, with prayers and pleas,
while children giggle and shout with glee.

As the gentle raindrops begin their fall,
the earth will be sated with her call.
Soon, the dust will cease to fly,
no longer will the land be hot and dry.

There is rage and seething in the air,
trumpeting its arrival with a blare.
None are safe from the intensity that will be brought.
There is no defense from this ferocious onslaught.

Furiously, the rain begins its descent to the ground,
rooftops and streets pummeled with a relentless sound.
Water gushes forth in a never-ending torrent,
spewing buckets of hail, adding to the torment.

Just as it started, the rain and wind abate,
the stormy summer skies have met their fate.
Once again, the summer sun shines upon the earth,
and all of nature has begun its rebirth.
